David -

A very interesting post, and one in which you and I are in complete agreement. However, one question that a number of witches have asked me in the past is why should they invoke either angels or demons in the first place? If they subscribe to a duo-theological religious system of a Goddess and God, how does the hierarchy of angels and demons, which would seem to more aligned with Judeo-Christian theology than witchcraft, fit in with that kind of spiritual view? I myself have answered this question in my own blog, equating the demons and the angels as emissaries of the Dryghton, but I would like to know how you would answer that question.

Every religion and magickal current takes ineffable Truths that cannot be fully expressed by mere words... and then attempts to express them by mere words.

Alas, the Truths cannot be conveyed directly as they are, so the words, symbols and personalities delivering them are ultimately just a necessary vehicle to convey the ideas, just like a wrapper is necessary to convey a candybar without it melting all over your hands.

Once you get the idea, you can throw away the imperfect words, symbols and personalities used to convey it, just like you'd throw away the wrapper after eating a candybar.

Interesting post, but actually I have an unrelated question which I would very much like to ask you. I have recently read 'Climbing The Tree Of Life' and found it to be the best modern book on the subject that I have read, which is why I would like to ask you this question which has been on my mind.

The question relates to the attribution of the Tarot trumps to the paths of the Tree of Life. Crowley switches the traditional attributions of The Star and The Emperor, which always seemed misguided to me, but also introduces a conundrum by keeping the traditional attribution in his tables for 777. Perhaps he was, rather than revealing a truth, merely hinting at one. I say this as, after working with the traditional attributions, I have come to the conclusion that although the Star is indeed correctly placed, the Emperor is not. I have come to feel certain that The Emperor would more appropriately be associated with path 20 (4-6), whereas the Hermit would more appropriately belong to path 15 (2-6).

I would very much appreciate your imput on this matter - you can contact me on the email address included with the submission of this comment if you have any relevant thoughts or if you would like me to further elucidate whereby I came to this conclusion.

Thank you.

Thanks for the nod, David - and also for applying the logic I presented in the article to other areas as well. :) It is so important for a student of any magickal practice to explore and understand his own "reality filter" (the biases one has for or against anything). We all have them, but we rarely see them objectively.

As for Enochian material - my hope is to tear off the years of material piled onto it since Dee's death, and to reveal it as the system of Renaissance Angel Magick that it is. Joe Peterson has done some great work in this area as well, I think.

"Salamandra Glass, so named in homage to the belief of ancient alchemists that the salamander could live through fire and was used as the symbol of transformation through fire." From a web site giving information on salamandra glass.

“This has no digestive organs, and gets no food but from the fire, in which it constantly renews its scaly skin. The salamander, which renews its scaly skin in the fire – for virtue.”

Purification through Fire.

More food for thought here - We may note the curious fact that a lizard is concealed in the tree: “The evil spirit has formed therein, among those which enter as opposites, a lizard as an opponent in that deep water, so that it may injure the Haoma ,” the plant of immortality. In alchemy , the spiritus mercurii that lives in the tree is represented as a serpent, salamander, or Melusina. — Jung, Psychology and Alchemy

http://www.alchemylab.com/cannabis_stone4.htm

Towards bottom of page.

In all fables we are told that the Salamander is born in fire.... It dwells in a great mountain which is encompassed by many flames. And as one of these is ever smaller than another — herein the Salamander bathes. The third is greater, the fourth brighter than the rest. In all these the Salamander washes, and is purified. Then he ties him to his cave, but on the way is caught and pierced so that it dies, and yields up its life with its blood. But this, too, happens for its good: For from its blood it wins immortal life, and then death has no more power over it. Its blood is the most precious Medicine upon earth, the same has not its like in the world. For this blood drives away all disease.... From it the Sages derive their science, and through it they attain the Heavenly Gift, which is called the Philosopher’s Stone . —The Book of Lambspring, The Hermetic Museum

Robert Anton Wilson wrote about the correlation between faeries and their interaction with humans and their modern day equivalent UFO's and alien abduction/contact. He hypothesized that our understanding of the world shapes our perception of those that exist outside it, so that we can fit them within our psyche without overloading it to bad.

My own personal observation of the faerie are closely tied to Mckenna's hyper-dimensional machine elves.

Hello,
I am doing some research into the six armed wheel, ad I have a medieval chest with similar carvings that I am trying to identify. If you could email me a full photo, of the image above, with the wheels as discussed, it would be very very greatly appreciated. Alternatively, if you could point to a wider image online that would be great too! I'll email you a photo of the chest if you like. It is quite amazing, and I believe from Brittany, c1500. Thanks.
Kind Regards,
Chris
